Locked A mixed border village on a river in western Kaelen. Burned in 880 AP, it gave the world two orphans who shook it: Ghost-9 and Alyssa Kruger.

The burning

In the last war, about 20 years before Campaign One, villages on both sides of the border were burned. Ashmar was one. Lotus scavengers pulled a silent five-year-old from under a fallen beam and named him Nine.

Names and looks

Locked Ashmar is a mixed border village, so it mixes names and looks too (R-023). A Kaelen-sounding Belek and an Aldorian-sounding Kruger can be neighbours. Border-born people often mix the two peoples, such as an Aldorian build with Kaelen amber or grey eyes. What marks them as Kaelen is accent and upbringing: the western river towns knew Alyssa was theirs "from her accent". Tristen was born here too, but his training lets him hide it.

A mixed village

Draft Ashmar has traded, married and fought across the mountains for generations. Names and looks there come from both peoples, and what marks someone as Kaelen is the accent (see Kaelen naming guide).

Now

Alyssa Kruger lies beside her mother here. The village quietly honours her as its own, and set lanterns on the river for her at the autumn festival.
