The Red Ribbon

Full page: The Red Ribbon.

Aldorians believe Alyssa was one of theirs. Red ribbons are appearing on doorframes, harness straps and sword hilts, and recruiting has surged. It's a ready-made banner, but it belongs to a dead woman, not to the crown. See Alyssa Kruger.

Central tensions

  1. Lyra and Tristen. Can she rule beside the Ninth? Can a kingdom rally behind him?
  2. Claiming the Ribbon without stealing it from Ashmar and the river towns.
  3. Assassin or king. His old tools work, and each use risks making him another Malakor.
  4. Edric's grandfather. If Tristen's identity spreads, Edric may work out who killed the Trade Prince.
  5. The Lotus he came from. Four, the Edge and Eleven each have reasons to help him, kill him, or ignore him.
  6. Farrow's gift. Guns could win the war, and could also make every warlord unstoppable.
