Alyssa's revolver¶
Alyssa's revolver
| Kind | A Farrowan revolver; the only firearm in Meridia |
| Called | The thunder-weapon; sorcery; a devil's weapon |
| Made | "In a smoky city across the Western Ocean", in Farrow |
| Held by | Eleven, "the Moth" |
| Rounds left | Two |
Locked The brass revolver Alyssa Kruger brought back from Farrow, and the weapon that killed Emperor Malakor. It is the only firearm in Meridia, it has two rounds left, and it's in the hands of a sixteen-year-old who answers to nobody.
Where it came from¶
Locked Farrow has guns. Alyssa spent two years there, from spring 907 to spring 909 AP, and learned medicine, Farrowan ways and the revolver. She came back with it.
The shot¶
Locked In late summer 909 AP, in the Hall of the Ninth Door at the Citadel, Alyssa drew the revolver and shot Emperor Malakor dead on his throne (R-013). The Edge, who escorted her to the eighth gate, never knew she carried it.
What people call it¶
Locked Nobody in Meridia has a word for "gun", "revolver", "bullet" or "gunpowder". People who saw it or heard of it call it a thunder-weapon, sorcery, or a devil's weapon, and the Kaelen court calls Alyssa the Thunder Witch. To a Kaelen, an emperor killed by an impossible weapon in a commoner's hand reads as the ledger violently correcting (see Kar'esh). It has become the emblem of the heresy "anybody could".
A real-world comparison
Think of the first few muskets that reached Japan in 1543 on a Portuguese ship. A handful of objects, and within a few years local smiths were copying them.
Where it is now¶
Locked The next morning, Eleven shot Eight, "the Hound" through the arm to stop him killing Alyssa, then escaped across the Citadel rooftops with the revolver. She has taken it apart and drawn its parts. Alyssa told her it was made in a smoky city across the Western Ocean. She chalks "Anybody could" on Citadel walls.
Tide merchants care less about who Alyssa was than about where the weapon came from, and who can sell more.
DM only: thunder-tubes
DM projection for the Age of Ribbons: Eleven's drawings reach the Stonedeep smiths, paid in Lantern Road silver, who copy them into the first crude "thunder-tubes". They're heavy, slow and unreliable. Bram Ironfoot is the natural go-between.
At the table¶
- Two rounds. Every shot spends one of the last two in the world. Make the player feel it.
- Open Whether Eleven, or anyone in Meridia, can make more rounds.
- Firing it anywhere is an announcement: anyone who hears the thunder will know exactly which weapon that was.
