Solis

The ruins of Solis at dusk, a broken cathedral dome over burned canal streets and a refugee soup line

Region The Crownlands
Population About 120,000, before the siege
Fell During the conquest, 907–908 AP
Status In ruins

Locked "City of the Sun", the capital of Aldoria. About 120,000 people before the war. Now ruins under a Kaelen curfew.

The city before the war

  • The Grand Cathedral, domed, the seat of the The Order of the Sun.
  • The royal palace, with its fortified West Wing royal residence.
  • The Eastern Embassy, across a courtyard from the palace, where Kaelen kept its ambassador after the trade peace.
  • Merchants' Hill, home of the bankers and of House Corvane.
  • The canal district: poor, lively, and fiercely loyal to the Torchbearer. It had no formal power, but it had the crowds.
  • The canal tunnels beneath the palace, used by the underworld.

The Lord Mayor and the guild masters ran the city's trade, markets and wards. The smiths, dockers and carters had no army, but they had the streets.

The fall

Solis fell after a hard siege during the conquest. Lyra and the King-Consort escaped and were never captured: Lord Marshal Vaelen died holding the way for them. Today the canal tunnels beneath the palace shelter Vesper's network, refugees, and old ruins that the Farrowan scholar Professor Osric Penhallow has come to study. In Campaign Two, Eight hunted Alyssa through the ruins.

Now

Vesper runs what's left of the underworld from a cellar beneath the ruins. Father Hollis runs a soup line from the ruined Order chapel.
