Factions

The powers of Aldoria and Kaelen at the start of Campaign Three (autumn 909 AP).

Aldoria

Faction What it is
The Aldorian Crown The realm's government, courts and forces, and what's left of them
The great houses The five founding houses, at a glance
House Aldor The royal line, and the house the kingdom is named for.
House Thessaly Old northern money: grey stone and iron wheat-sheaves instead of gilt.
House Ardent A founding house whose lands once lay in the Marches.
House Corvane Bankers rather than landlords.
House Morrow The great trading house of the river, whose head is the Trade Prince.
The Royal Council About a dozen seats that advised the Crown and ran Aldoria day to day.
The Royal Shield-Guard The King's household guard: about 80 swords, loyal to the Crown.
The Order of the Sun Aldoria's church, and once a rival to the throne

Kaelen

Faction What it is
The Crimson Empire of Kaelen The Empire: its look, government and live crisis
The imperial family of Kaelen The Kaelen imperial line: complicated, contested, and unbroken since Selorin.
The Imperial Council The council of the Kaelen throne, which heard Four's confession and now knows the King-Consort is the Ninth.
The Jade Lotus Syndicate The Empire's assassins

The resistance

Faction What it is
The resistance All the pieces at a glance
Vesper's network The Crown's secret hand: Aldoria's underworld and intelligence service, now run from a cellar under ruined Solis.
The Lantern Road A refugee and smuggling network from Thornford to the sea, marked by paper lanterns in windows.
Bram's caravan Bram Ironfoot's wagon train, and the crew that became Alyssa's found family.
The Red Ribbon A banner without an owner: red ribbons on doorframes, harness straps and sword hilts, for the girl who wouldn't kneel.
Sarith's company About 500 Kaelen soldiers, abandoned by their Empire, who served the Aldorian crown and died holding the ridge under the banner Stay.
