Gareth never lost the Marcher accent. Like every Ardent before him, he resents Church taxes and the capital's habit of forgetting the frontier. He was warm toward the Warden from the start.

His 800 marched east and fought at Hollowpass. Before that, Kaelen bribe money ran a false toll through his lands at Kestrel Gap to set the lords against each other.
