Regent Rhazen

Regent Rhazen

Regent Rhazen in a crimson and black kaftan, a splintered chair on the dais behind him

Title Regent of Kaelen; Prince
House The imperial family of Kaelen
Age 40s
Rules for Emperor Ishar, his nephew
Holds The Citadel, the treasury, the heartland
Status Alive

Locked Malakor's lean, patient uncle, who now rules the Empire for a nine-year-old. He wasn't surprised when his nephew died.

Character

Clever and unhurried. He keeps the splintered chair that nearly took his head. He's the primary antagonist in the heartland.

The Hall of Lanterns

The morning after Malakor's death, Rhazen had Four, "the Listener"'s sealed confession read aloud to the The Imperial Council: the Ninth is Aldoria's King-Consort. He then sent Eight, "the Hound" west with 300 riders to hunt the Queen and King-Consort.

His problem

A child Emperor and a murdered predecessor mean every pillar of power is testing him: Prince Hadrak's grief, Prince Borun's cowardice, the Lotus going independent, and the bureaucracy's quiet obstruction.

DM only

He wasn't surprised by the assassination, and Eight glanced at him in the hall. He may have known more than he admits, and he may prefer the Ninth alive, as a useful enemy. In the projected Age of Ribbons, Hadrak comes to believe Rhazen arranged Malakor's death.
