Lord Ambrose Corvane

Lord Ambrose Corvane

Lord Ambrose Corvane, a silver-haired banker in dark velvet holding an unopened letter

House House Corvane
Heir Sir Cassian Corvane
Seat Merchants' Hill, Solis
Status Alive, banking under the occupation

Locked Head of the banking house of Corvane. A banker first and last: he follows the money, not a crown.

History

Ambrose lent to great men and held the documents they wanted kept safe, including the third copy of the secret accord, unread.

The betrothal and the shame

Locked Ambrose did not scheme to wed his son Cassian to Princess Lyra. That plan was Archon Solaris's and Grandmaster Vane's. Ambrose also did not know that Cassian owed gambling debts to the Kaelen embassy.

When the truth came out, he was shamed in public. Cassian left the house, leaving his father a letter.

Open What the letter says.

Now

Locked When Kaelen conquered Aldoria, Ambrose didn't kneel, not in the sense of submitting. He simply followed where the money went, and the money went to the Empire. House Corvane still banks under the occupation.

A real-world comparison

Think of the great banking houses of history, like the Fuggers, who lent to whichever emperor was winning. They weren't traitors or patriots. Loyalty was a line on the balance sheet.
