The Serpent's Stair

The Serpent's Stair

The Serpent's Stair, a narrow smugglers' path cut into a sheer mountainside, broken by an old rockfall
Region The Marches
Collapsed Autumn 902 AP
Reopened Before spring 907 AP

Locked An old smugglers' foot-path over the mountains, long thought impassable. Collapsed by Tristen, reopened by Kaelen.

History

It was the hidden invasion route for the Kaelen advance army. Lord Trevor collapsed and buried it at its high saddle in autumn 902 AP, stranding Captain Sarith's camp. Reopening it was a generation's work for a mining crew, but Kaelen did it for the invasion. In the first assault, the Stair column was ambushed on the high saddle after refugee boys gave warning.
