The marriage plot

Cassian was a gambling addict, deep in debt to the Kaelen embassy, which meant to Grandmaster Vane. Solaris and Vane used that debt: married to Lyra, Cassian would be their puppet. Lord Trevor uncovered the Corvane connection to Kaelen and broke the plan.

Archon Solaris meant to wed Cassian to Princess Queen Lyra so the Archon could rule through her. The scheme was the Archon's and Vane's, not his father's. At the morning court, Solaris publicly abandoned him. Cassian gave Lord Trevor a key to the Corvane vault, where the third copy of the secret accord lay. His father, Lord Ambrose, knew nothing of the debt or the scheme, and was shamed in public when it came out. Cassian left the house, leaving him a letter.

Now

He lives quietly as a shepherd in Wrenmoor, a small Marches sheep village. He knows where the bodies are buried, literally and financially. A wildcard.
