Emperor Malakor	Regent, regicide, conqueror of Aldoria, and Emperor of Kaelen for a single year.
Emperor Ishar	The nine-year-old Emperor of Kaelen.
Regent Rhazen	Malakor's lean, patient uncle, who now rules the Empire for a nine-year-old.
Prince Hadrak	Malakor's very old great-uncle, grieving in his hill estates.
Prince Borun	A fat, frightened uncle of Malakor who bends whichever way is safe.
Emperor Zaruth	The old Emperor.
Prince Ilvar	Malakor's father, a younger son of the Elder Emperor, and the head of a cadet branch.
Emperor Kharos	The Elder Emperor: father of Zaruth, Rhazen, Borun and Ilvar.
Emperor Azkarun	Father of Kharos and Hadrak, two generations before Malakor.

Emperor Mordakar	The Kilian king who built an ultimate weapon, turned conqueror, and founded the first Crimson Empire.
Prince Fenrak	Mordakar's nephew, who assassinated him and broke the first Empire.
Emperor Selorin	The benevolent Emperor who restored Kaelen and signed the peace with Aldoria.
Emperor Ekhar the Wounded	The Emperor who survived an Aldorian assassination attempt and founded the Jade Lotus in revenge.

Mereth	The Kaelen envoy in Westhaven, buying grain.
Belek of Ashmar	A villager of Ashmar who set a lantern on the river for Alyssa at the autumn festival.
Ulrek	Keeper of the Lantern Road's notebook of 41 Thornwick names.
Captain Sarith	The Kaelen officer abandoned by his own Empire, who chose to stay, served the Aldorian crown, and died holding the ridge under the banner Stay.
