Captain Dorne

Captain Dorne

Captain Dorne, a scarred, crippled old soldier with a crutch drinking alone in a tavern

Command Hollowpass, about 350 men
Loyalty The Lord Protector
Wounded At Hollowpass, spring 907 AP
Now Crippled, in occupied Thornford
Status Alive

Locked The unbreakable old commander of Hollowpass, the fortress that holds the only road east.

Campaign One

Honest and beloved, Dorne was the captain Solaris wanted fired, because he stood firmly against Kaelen influence. The plan was to starve his garrison and make him look incompetent. Brother Brother Cobb was starving his garrison to feed the Kaelen camp above the pass. Lord Trevor won him with truth and food, and Dorne laid his sword before the Warden. He armed against the camp instead of opening the gate.

The war

Locked When Kaelen invaded at the spring new moon of 907 AP, Dorne defended Hollowpass first-hand, on the wall with his men. He was badly wounded early in the fighting. He insisted on staying to die defending the pass, but he was carried back to Thornford against his will. He survived.

Now

Locked Crippled, Dorne lives in Kaelen-occupied Thornford. He hates the Empire, and he drinks. Most nights he's at the Ford & Firkin, arguing with Nella that he should have died on Hollowpass.

A real-world comparison

Think of Lieutenant Dan in Forrest Gump: a soldier from a line of soldiers who was supposed to die in battle, was dragged out alive instead, and can't forgive anyone for it, least of all himself.

DM only

A broken commander who knows every stone of Hollowpass, hates the occupation, and wants a death worth having is a dangerous recruit for the resistance. Whether he can be sobered up enough to lead again is a good story.
